Several regions of the country are in a state of emergency due to floods, wildfires, and heavy snowfalls. April became the most unpredictable month this year. Spring floods have come to the Vologda and Nizhniy Novgorod Regions. In the Transbaikal region and around the Amur River, thousands of hectares of taiga are on fire. In the Kirov and Chelyabinsk Regions, they're experiencing unusual snowfalls that nobody expected at this time of year. Our correspondents Stanislav Nazarov and Anna Bosenko report on the issue. Several villages in the Kirov Region were simultaneously cut off from the main highway. The road to Sibir village reminds one of an empty field. This village's residents couldn't leave it for several days. The large Barmins family made it through these days only because of their personal food supply. "This morning, I had to ski with my daughter to the train station." A caterpillar tractor helps clear the roads that lead to the snowed-in streets. All the residents come out with shovels to help. You can't drive on some parts of the road, and some of Kirov's roads are still under a 1-meter layer of snow. Instead of sidewalks, most streets have snowdrifts. "It's very hard to walk through all the deep snow, potholes, and slippery roads." It seems that the real winter waited until the end of April to come to Vyatka. Traffic in Kirov has ground to a screeching halt. Thousands of people had to walk to work. "It's hard." -Has it been a long walk? -Very long. An emergency flight is on it's way to Arkharinsky District; the Khingan Nature Reserve is on fire. This Be-200 is ready to deliver tons of water to one of the most difficult-to-reach areas. The temperature is so high that people can't get to the base of the fire. Within a matter of seconds, the water puts out the flames. The plane has just dropped the first water load, and we're heading to the next firefighting mission. We're heading for the Bureya Reservoir. The moment the plane touches the water, we feel a thud. Moments later, after filling its water tanks, the hydroplane takes to the air again. "They told me, 'Commander, you're in trouble.'" Ground-based groups from the Amur Region, the Khabarovsk Krai, and Khakassia joined the firefighting efforts. The region is expecting rainfall within the next few days, but, according to the Amur Weather Service, it won't make much of a difference to the situation.
